Irma sat in church listening to the revrened drone on and on about Jesus and god she was almost asleep with such bordom. It's so hard to hear him with all this rain. But I like it better this way. I can't hear him. I wonder if it started to hail, thunder, and lightning all at the same time people will tell us to go home?Irma thought with a smirk. I think I'll try that out. Irma pointed her index finger at the ceiling and gave it a little flick. Suddenly the roof started to leak and the water hit the revrened on the head. That was OK....but I can do better. I know that I can! I think today church will acctually be fun. She gave her finger anothr flick and lightning struck just outside the window. Then some thunder claps. Wow the revrened looks really freaked out now. He probobly thinks its a sign from god telling him to stop the church service.Irma thought with a little laugh.

Today Hay Lin was wearing a pair of pink googles, used as a headband, a pink sweatshirt and black pants underneath her oh-so-warm long light blue marshmellow winter coat. Though, at the moment, it didn't matter what she was wearing. Hay Lin was nearly falling asleep. This was soooo boring. The only reason she came here, seeing that she's Chinese and doesn't believe in God, was because that her friend Irma might be here. But she hadn't seen Irma yet at alll. Soooooo boring. Blah, blah, blah. She closed her eyes and faked a quiet snore, which the people behind her thought was very rude. Plop What? Hay Lin opened her eyes. A drop of water had just fallen on the tip of her nose. She looked cross eyed at it, then up at the ceiling. The roof was leaking! Plop "Eeek!" Hay Lin squealed when another, very big, drop landed on her head. She quickly covered her mouth and looked sorry when everyone looked at her. Everyone, except a brown haired girl sitting around the front of the church. Irma! Hay Lin thought. She got up quietly, and sneaked around the side and went and sat next to her best friend. There was lightning striking outside, and the rain was heavier than ever. "You did that!" She whispered into her best friend's ear.

Irma jumped as somebody whispered in her ear"Oh! Hi!"said Irma, not expecting to see her best friend at church seeing as she didn'd beleive in god. Oh wait....neither do I.....my parents just drag me along every Sunday. "Sorry about that" Irma said in a quick-must-explain-type whisper as she moved over on the bench to make some room for her friend to sit down. "I didn't mean to do that, I was just trying to scare the revrened. I was so bored. I did'nt even know you were here! But now that you are......we can both have some fun in this church service! Why don't you do something? It'll be fun.....come on. Just a little bit of magic to scare the revrened? Pur-lease?" Irma pleaded her friend and put her hands together as if she was praying "Please with a cherry on top?" Irma asked Hay Lin in her sweetest voice.

"You might want to be a bit more quiet." Hay Lin whispered out of the corner of her mouth. "People are staring!" Well, this was half true. A little girl was looking at them with wide eyes. It was scary. She looked imploringly at her friend. "And what would I, the air girl, be able to do that's not oh-so-obvious?" Hay Lin looked around the church. First she thought maybe she could whip up a miniture wind to sweep the reverend off his feet and onto the ground. But that wasn't interesting enough. She scanned around the church. She turned around and looked at where the church door was. She looked back at her friend and whispered happily, "I've got it!" Crossing her fingers on her left hand, hoping it would work, with her right hand she made a small gesture at the door. The wind outside pushed on the door, making a fooooshhh sound when it went through the gaps. She made a more sudden stroke of her hand through the air and- BOOOSHHFOOSHWOOSSSHHH! The door of the church opened and a sudden explosion of air made a lot of people exclaim, stand up, and start running out. Rain was coming in through the doors, and it was blowing directly at everyone. Grabbing her bag, Hay Lin pulled it over her shoulder and stood up. Everyone else was standing so it didn't matter. She smiled her trademark grin, a big toothy smile. "There we go." There was no need to be quiet, no one could hear her. "Now all we need is..." With a flourish of her hand she pulled out a small two people umbrella, and smiled some more. "Come on, let's go hang out around the grass out the front." She looked up at the sky through the church windows, and winked at her friend. "I have a feeling it'll stop raining soon."

Irma walked outside with Hay Lin "yeah me too" she said also with a wink. Irma flicked her fingers at the sky and in a few seconds the clouds had cleared and the storm had stopped. She looked round and saw people staring at the sky in confusion mixed with amazment. "Very strange weather today" said Irma in her usual loud voice "I wonder if the weather will continue like this tomorrow". A young man with dark hair and a pretty girl with chrome blond hair who were holding hands at the time, turned around at the last remark. "But it can't rain tomorrow! We are going to the park for a picnic!" said the blond girl, looking at the young man, shocked, as if Irma knew what the weather was going to be. "Oh well" said Irma in a dramatic voice "You never know. It just might rain" "But it can't rain tomorrow!" said the girl, practically screaming now. "I've been planning this for weeks!" The boy was looking quite shocked now at how loud the girl could scream. "It's OK it probably won't rain" He said in what he thought was a calm and soothing tone, shooting Irma a nasty look as if she had meant to get the girl upset. Irma responded with the 'Im-cute-and-innocent-you-can't-hurt-me' look. The young couple walked off, the girl had tears streaming down her face and the boy was trying to calm her down. ".......its OK we can go to the movies instead......." but he was trying and failing as the girl screamed back "But I've been planning it for ages and I didn't thinkt that it would rain! what if it rains......!?" Well that was certainly an interesting church service. "OK, I didn't mean to do that" Irma said to Hay Lin with a nervouse laugh.

She smiled, then looked over at the blond girl walking with her boyfriend out back around the village. "Do you think she'll be okay?" She asked Irma quietly. Hay Lin always liked to keep the peace, and that girl didn't seem to be happily peaceful. Hay Lin looked up at the sky, and her thoughts on the blond girl were blown away with the gust of wind that came by, like the leaf she now saw, drifting along the wind. She giggled and felt her fingers tingle, and her feet left the ground by a centimetre for half a second. She quickly dropped back down onto the grass with a small thump, and smiled. She slipped her small blue umbrella back into her shoulder bag, and looked around. Seeing the small tree Irma and herself usually hanged out around, she gestured to her and sat down in the shade. She unzipped her blue marshmellow coat and put it aside, revealing her fucshia sweatshirt. Around them were a few other people, who had now gotten over the sudden change in weather, and were hanging around under trees too. She happily observed them for a bit.

"She'll be fine" said Irma dissmisavley. "I think that was a very productive church service, don't you?" Irma loved chaos. She was always involved. If she was part of it, stirring it up or just watching it, she was always found near it because she is usually the the cause. When Irma looked at Hay Lin again she still looked concerend. "Look, she will be fine. I'll make sure it doesn't rain. OK? Will you stop worrying please. Im sure they will be fine."

Hay Lin shrugged as she sat down. "Yeah..." She leaned against the trunk of the small tree. Feeling a bump in it, she turned around and giggled. "Hey look, that's where we carved our names when we were 7..." She traced the little letters as if she was writing them, and paused on the little heart over the 'i'. "This tree was much bigger then!" She stood up and measured herself against it. "It hasn't really grown since."

"Yeah" said Irma quietly "I've been your friend for..." Irma did a quick finger count "....so if im turning fourteen....." Irma was mumbling "...7..8....9...10...11...12....13...14....." "So I've been your friend for 8 years! Well not quite, we must have been pretty good friends by then to write that on a tree so actually 9 years" Wow I feel smart! I did math on a sunday! YAY!

She poked Irma in the head with her long pointer finger. "Er, Irma, clean out your brain! We've been friends ever since we were 3!" She made a look on her face. "We've been friends for nearly 11 years now." She thought about this for a second, her head tilted and her finger resting on her chin. "Wow. We are great friends!" She closed her eyes as she smiled and hugged Irma.

"Errrrrr....ooof....um....Hay Lin.........need....to breath..." Were are so different. She likes to keep it all quiet and I like it noisy, laughter and yelling. Not that she doesn't like a good laugh! But not MY friends! Only my enemies. Its funny Thought Irma But I guess that doesnt matter how diffrent you are if you get along thought Irma with a smile. "Ummm still.........cant.....breathe.......Hay Lin!"

Hay Lin let go of Irma with a giggle. Then she looked around, and sighed sadly. "I wish we didn't have to hide our powers from people. It would be so nice if everyone liked magic and normal people. But, no." She pulled a purple magic marker out of her shoulder bag and started to draw on her hand. It wasn't a specific picture, she just felt like scribbling something.

"It's only because people are scared. They don't understand. People are scared of diffrent, I'm not quite sure why. I like diffrent." Irma stopped and thought for a second about Quincy But no. I can't like him! He likes Diana! It's soooo obvious. Anyway....Back to reality...... Irma jumped back to reality with an idea that had jolted into her head. "Hay Lin! What if we go to that boring park. You know, the one with no playground just a load of trees, but we hang out there because we like to climb trees and we can sit up there and talk? You know that one? Well we could go there and see if we could do any other magic!" A few more heads turned at what Irma had said about magic "Yea" said Irma trying to do a quick cover up "MY tree climbing tricks are like MAGIC I wonder if yours are up to scratch Hay Lin?" Well it worked. People stopped staring; as much.
