Mai looked out at the town. Everything had been overrun, it looked as if feral animals had started living in the houses. Mai stood there, her arm out, waiting for Laishka to come back. Her hair flew around her face in the breeze, and her tattoos stood out even more on her arm. She looked up at the sky, then back towards the town, and let her arm fall down by her side. She walked slowly, as though in a dream, and entered the run down village. Some houses windows were all cracked and some had no windows at all. Off in the distance what looked like a rotting statue sat on it's side, a few birds hanging around the dirt around it, pecking at the ground. They flew away when they saw Mai, and she stepped over the statue.
Laishka!
Mai called off into the distance, wondering where the small dragon was. She saw something white appear around one of the buildings, then fly swiftly to her. Mai put out her arm and Laishka landed on it and folded her wings.
Yes?
The thought Mai could hear, although it wasn't spoken aloud.
I don't like this place. It's empty...it feels as if Death itself lives here. Where have they all gone?
You know all the Elementals died out eons ago, right?
No they didn't! I'm still here!
Yeah, well, other than you, who is there?

No one.
